The aim of Lucy Hall’s project, ‘Colourblind’, is to bring people living
in increasingly artificial environments closer to those feelings
experienced when in the natural world.
Just as walking through woodland can feel calming and tranquil,
as the natural light changes, it can fast become an exciting and
uplifting experience. As the light dims, the same space transforms
into a place of intimidation.
Lucy is interested in exploring how, by playing with colour, light and
shadow, she can reflect these altering moods. By applying digital
print and laser etching on to traditional Japanese screen paper she
has created a series of layered screens, designed for therapeutic
or living spaces.
The screens are designed to be moveable and interchangeable, thus
reflecting a range of differing moods. Natural changes in light also
serve to alter the feel of the screens so that the mood is ever-
changing, just as it is in the natural world.
Lucy’s screens are available as bespoke commissions. Please see
the contacts page for details.
The inspiration for Lucy’s ‘Colourblind’ screens comes from the
changing light and colours of the natural world. Throughout this
year long project she kept a photographic diary, recording
changes in the same woodlands at different points during the year.
If you are interested in purchasing any of these art works, or in

Throughout the natural world, different organism’s function successfully
by using colour and pattern to communicate, whether it be to protect,
attract or repel.
Inspired by creatures such as the chameleon, whose
colour changes are affected by it’ s emotions and nervous system,
Lucy’s futuristic ’Polymorphic print’ picks up on it’s wearer’s mood
and changes colour and pattern accordingly.
